Kincaid Furniture Company refers to itself as “An American Dream Come True,” and this is no exaggeration. J. Wade Kincaid began assembling dresser drawers at the age of 14 for a small furniture company in North Carolina. Deciding he wanted to work for himself, he slowly saved money over time and eventually purchased his own grocery store. But it didn’t take long for him to realize that furniture creation was his true calling, and in 1946 he purchased a small furniture company using $10,000 from his savings and from pooled funds from his family. From these humble beginnings, the Kincaid Furniture Company was brought to life.
The Ashburn walnut bed is among the most unique pieces in the Monogram Walnut collection. The beauty of this bed is best seen in confluence of subtle details and shapes that set it apart. The centerpiece of those details is the inward beveled solid walnut slats that create dimension and reflection. This allows light to interact with the natural grain of the walnut. A simple but carefully shaped frame creates the structure of the headboard, supporting the slats with a shelter bed. Each element is simple and at the same time intricate as they accentuate the the character of the walnut.
Sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone. In fact, we did as little as possible when we finished the new Monogram Walnut Collection. Rather than cover up the most sought after of American lumbers, we leave behind the tricks and concealments of large-scale low-cost driven furniture. Rather than finish over the natural beauty of walnut, we help it to become what it is meant to be, letting the natural imperfections and character prove itself as a real, solid wood furniture. Monogram Walnut doesn’t just go against the grain, it embraces it. In a world full of filters, touch-ups and artificial effects, the real things have become the rare things.
