Hamilton Louden Bruce decided to try his hand at furniture manufacturing in October 1943. Leasing a small building for fifteen dollars a month, he hired two helpers and started to manufacture canvas covered lawn chairs, producing only about 24 chairs a day. Mr. Bruce named the company Hammary, after himself, Hamilton (Ham) and his wife Mary (mary). In 1947, Mr. Bruce dropped the lawn chair line and began to manufacture a group of occasional tables, able to sell $200,000 in orders before even the first sample tables were made at the plant!
Hammary Portman 2pc Entertainment Console Set in Raw Umber
Rustic sawn pine finished in a natural rich brown with dark bronze metal hardware — the Portman collection was inspired by straightforward design that is more about function than embellishments. Solid, sturdy, and practical are all words that define this collection. Metal 'L' brackets were used at the butt joints for added interest and authentic structural stability, turning the construction details into a defining design feature.
The Entertainment Console provides generous media storage and display space with the same authentic rustic pine construction and dark bronze hardware that characterizes the collection. The Rectangular Drawer End Table serves as a coordinating side piece — drawer storage, pine veneers, and the same honest material story. Together, these two pieces create a media and side storage solution that feels genuinely crafted and built to last, perfect for those who value authentic materials and honest construction over trendy finishes or superficial design details.
