Hamilton Louden Bruce decided to try his hand at furniture manufacturing in October 1943. Leasing a small building for fifteen dollars a month, he hired two helpers and started to manufacture canvas covered lawn chairs, producing only about 24 chairs a day. Mr. Bruce named the company Hammary, after himself, Hamilton (Ham) and his wife Mary (mary). In 1947, Mr. Bruce dropped the lawn chair line and began to manufacture a group of occasional tables, able to sell $200,000 in orders before even the first sample tables were made at the plant!

The Round Coffee Table (207-911) anchors the seating area with its generous 38-inch glass top revealing beautiful woven cane webbing below, and casters for effortless repositioning. Paired beside it, the Round End Table (207-916) echoes the same circular silhouette at a more intimate scale. Its glass top with cane detail and lower wooden shelf create layered depth and storage that doesn't feel heavy. The Rectangular Chairside Chest (207-917) provides the architectural counterpoint — its rectangular form balances the rounded pieces while sharing the same cane-and-glass vocabulary. One drawer, one caned door, an adjustable wood shelf, and a hidden electrical outlet behind a flip-down back panel make it as functional as it is beautiful. Crafted from warm Hazel-finished alder veneers, all three pieces share an organic, approachable aesthetic that never feels stuffy.
