What It Takes to Make a Table
My Creation by Ericka V. Throughout the workweek, I dedicate my time to my job at Bedroom Furniture Discounts, where I often sit at my desk with its glass top. However, during the past six Sundays, I've been attending a woodshop class, honing my skills and crafting my very own wooden end table.

Have you ever paused to consider the intricacies involved in the creation of your bedroom set or dining table? The anticipation of receiving new furniture often overshadows any curiosity about its construction process.

What captivated me was not just the aesthetics, but the artistry of craftsmanship. Setting realistic goals for a beginner like myself, I embarked on the challenge of building a 7X7 end table with lap joints, tapered legs, and a beveled tabletop edge.

Despite some mishaps with sandpaper and narrowly avoiding drilling into the tabletop, I successfully completed my inaugural woodshop project with all fingers intact. Through trial and error, I acquired various techniques, enhancing my understanding of woodworking and fostering a sense of pride in my creation.

While I realize that my journey in woodworking has only just begun, it has deepened my appreciation for the furniture industry. Though I may not pursue carpentry professionally, this experience has empowered me to be a more informed consumer and provide better assistance to customers.

Ultimately, I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zones and explore new activities. Whether it's a woodshop class, sewing workshop, or any other endeavor, embracing novelty has broadened my horizons and enriched my life with exciting experiences.
